How IIC Technologies is Transforming Hydrographic Education

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of traveling to Portland, Victoria, to support IIC Technologies’ internationally recognized S-5B hydrographic surveying training program. This was a special opportunity to work closely with IIC, an organization I have admired since participating in their very first Cat B hydrography course in 2022. The experience reaffirmed my respect for their dedication to promoting the hydrographic surveying industry and cultivating new talent through comprehensive training programs.

During the course, I worked alongside participants from diverse backgrounds, helping fit a Portus Pole and Norbit Winghead i80s system to their survey vessel. This equipment played a critical role in the practical components of the program, enabling participants to gain hands-on experience with modern hydrographic survey systems. It was rewarding to see the students take their first steps into this dynamic field, honing skills that will empower them to support vital marine navigation, safety, and management efforts in their home countries.

As a representative of Seismic Asia Pacific, a company with a long history of supporting hydrographic endeavors, it has always been a pleasure to collaborate with IIC Technologies. Their commitment to advancing hydrographic practices and creating a welcoming space for new entrants to the industry is inspiring.

They are addressing the pressing need to grow awareness and foster development in this niche but essential field, providing high-quality training that bridges the gap between theory and real-world application.

Hydrographic surveying is crucial for understanding and managing the world’s oceans, yet the field requires more visibility and skilled professionals. Programs like the S-5B offered by IIC are instrumental in ensuring the next generation of hydrographers is well-equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

Looking back on my journey from a participant in IIC’s Cat B course to now being part of their training initiatives, I feel honoured to contribute to this mission. Seismic Asia Pacific looks forward to continuing our partnership with IIC and supporting the growth of hydrography for years to come.
